Details of Experience:

Salvatore Palisi is a bright and intelligent 82-year-old man who loves to engage with his
peers and spread positivity wherever he goes. When Salvatore fell ill with sepsis for the fourth time, it resulted in a major setback in his physical abilities. The case manager at Mercy
Medical Center in Rockville Center recommended The Grand Pavilion for rehabilitation.

After some research, Salvatore’s sons determined that The Grand Pavilion would be the right
choice, and Salvatore is very grateful they made that decision. Upon his arrival on May 25th, Salvatore was greeted by the concierge, Avi Newman, who showed Salvatore to his room, which was pristinely prepared for him.

Following his arrival, Salvatore was met by his physical therapist, where they identified the goals and created a care plan. On Day One, Salvatore could walk only ten feet, not maneuver in bed, and could not independently transfer from a bed to a chair. The goals were to walk 150 feet, maneuver in bed, and transfer to a chair.

Salvatore was satisfied with the accommodations—he had a beautiful room, he was served three delicious meals a day, and he had really kind aides and nurses treating him—but he was the least confident that he and his therapist would be able to achieve their goals. It was only 49 days later, and Salvatore was now walking 250 feet, independently maneuvering in his bed and
transferring from bed to a chair is now a breeze.

Due to hard work and dedication. Salvatore was set to be discharged on July 12th, 2024, where he once rolled through the front doors, he was proudly able to walk out, regaining his physical strength, his mental strength, and his confidence. We wished Salvatore well as he was discharged from Grand Pavilion and shared that we would be cheering him on during the next phase of his journey.
