Details of Experience:
Ms. Georgia V. an 81 year old woman, was admitted to The Grand Pavilion for Rehabilitation and Nursing following a serious fall that left her with a broken nose and broken elbow. When Georgia arrived she was upset. She never imagined she would need rehabilitation and struggled with the idea of not being able to care for herself. When Georgia arrived she was placed on the second floor…then she expressed a strong preference to move to the first floor, and the staff honored her request the very next day. Within her first 24 hours, she met the concierge team, along with her aides and therapists, and her daughter remained closely involved in her care. The care team quickly set goals to help Georgia regain strength and mobility. The team focused on walking, self-feeding, and rebuilding function in her right hand.
As Georgia settled into her first week, her care plan took shape, and she began physical and occupational therapy with determination. The cast on her arm was removed after two weeks, and from there her progress took off. She worked closely with the therapy team on a variety of tasks. She learned how to walk, navigate stairs, and using weights to strengthen her upper body. She also practiced getting in and out of her chair and used the therapy bike regularly. Outside of therapy, Georgia enjoyed socializing with fellow residents in the solarium and spending time with her family on the outdoor patio. She expressed deep appreciation for the first-floor nursing staff, often sharing how kind, professional, and attentive they were throughout her stay.
Over her 39-day stay, Georgia made remarkable progress. By mid-July, she was walking confidently with a walker and able to perform daily tasks independently again. Her daughter picked her up on July 18, 2025, and Georgia was thrilled to be heading back to the comfort of her own home and shower. Since her discharge, Georgia continues light exercises at home to maintain her progress.
What makes Georgia’s story even more special is that she continues to visit The Grand Pavilion regularly not as a patient, but as a devoted wife. Her husband is currently a resident undergoing therapy of his own, and Georgia visits frequently to bring him breakfast and encourage his recovery. Her journey is a testament to her resilience, and the strong support system she has in her family and care team. We are proud to have played a part in Georgia’s recovery and wish her continued health and strength.
