Details of Experience
Howard K is an 87-year-old resident who was admitted to The Grand Pavilion for Rehabilitation & Nursing after sustaining a broken elbow and arriving from Mount Sinai West. Although Howard wished to return home immediately, his injury limited his ability to manage daily activities safely. Rehabilitation was recommended to help him regain strength and mobility so he could return home successfully.
Upon his arrival, Howard felt frustrated by his sudden loss of independence, which significantly changed his daily activities. Within his first 48 hours, he was warmly welcomed by the Concierge team (Reuben Azose and Eitan Greenwald), along with Bibi, his aide, and the nursing staff. He was assessed by the rehabilitation team, and with his elbow remaining in a cast for the first three weeks, his care plan was closely monitored to ensure an effective recovery.
During his stay, Howard actively participated in physical and occupational therapy. He practiced walking, going up and down stairs, and strengthening his elbow using weights and exercises. Initially dependent on a wheelchair, Howard made steady progress and eventually was able to walk and sit comfortably in his regular chair in his room and use his walking cane, marking a significant improvement in his independence.
Howard also appreciated the social and emotional support he received. He especially enjoyed the Thanksgiving dinner, which allowed him to share a family-style meal with other residents while his family was away. He often expressed gratitude for Bibi’s attentive care and for Reuben and Eitan’s daily support in helping him fulfill his religious canons for prayer and to wrap his tefillin. In his free time, Howard enjoyed watching television and relaxing in his room.
Howard was discharged home with his friend, who picked him up by car. He will continue doing therapy at home to further strengthen his elbow and maintain his progress. Howard was excited to return to his own shower, spend time with his family, relax on his balcony overlooking the beach, and eventually return to the gym.
His successful recovery reflects both his determination and the supportive care he received at The Grand Pavilion. We wish him the very best in his further recovery and renewal.
